Effective communication is the product of process. Our process has two dimensions:

1. Linear, in which we follow a series of steps that lead us from problem to outcome. These steps are critical to ensure that deadlines and expectations are met. We begin with rigorous inquiry; continue to concept development; graduate to design and content creation; manage production; and finally, deliver the final product. None of this takes place in isolation. Our clients participate fully, and they sign off on each step before we go forward.

2. Anti-linear, which describes the creative pursuit of ideas.

  • For inspiration, we tap a surfeit of sources and a lifetime of influences.
  • For perspective, we engage others, including our clients, in dialogue and brainstorming.
  • For the benefit of our subconscious, we take a walk. Or a nap. Throughout, we write and draw and erase.

These two dimensions create tension. Generous helpings of the anti-linear typically feed more options and ideas; at the same time, the Web site has to launch, the brochure must go to press, the postcards need to be in the mail. So we can’t dither, either.

How we manage this tension speaks to who we are.

We honor deadlines, but on the occasion in which a deadline can give a day or two, we’ll ask for more time if we feel the creativity warrants it.

We work to accommodate the hectic schedules of our clients, while providing the structure needed to get the job done.

We’ll never present ideas that haven’t been fully fired in the kiln – unless, of course, we’re throwing them in as fuel for added discussion.

The point is this: Magic needs its method to work, and we are experienced and disciplined enough to embrace this simple truth.
